Xiaomi has just recently launched the next generation of its custom Android skin which is the MIUI 13. The announcement was made at a recent even by Lei Jun, who is the CEO and co-founder of Xiaomi. As usual, this new update comes with a whole lot of significant improvements and added features.
The new MIUI 13 will focus more on improved privacy featured and enhanced security. Xiaomi is also trying to introduce seamless connection between devices in its Eco System, which means multiple Xiaomi devices like the smartphones, tablets, TV, smart wearables, smart home devices, and the XiaoAI voice assistant will be able to communicate together in one single network.
Privacy has also been improved with the newly implemented three-step verification process, which comprises of the facial recognition, followed by watermark reading of the user’s ID, and also the “electronic fraud protection”.
The facial recognition is different from what we are used to as it is an upper-body recognition. This means the user will not only set the face, but also record the upper part of the body from the waist up. This will prevent a different person with similar face but different body structure from unlocking the phone.
The second one which is the watermark reading of user's ID is pretty self explanatory as it works by simply reading users ID.
For the “electronic fraud protection”, this will go through a record of saved websites and devices in other to detect if it is malicious or not. Users will also be able to see if an incoming call is safe to accept or not through its full phonebook of numbers.
Xiaomi has also introduced a new, free to download font for the MIUI 13 which is called means. It is based on sans-serif font but with simplified letters, signs, and numbers.
There are also a new set of wallpaper options on the new MIUI 13 which consists of flowers that will bloom from one side of the screen when powered. There are also a whole lot of widgets redesigned to align better in a grid, similar to that of the iOS 15.
For the first time, Xiaomi also introduced a table focus version of its new custom Android skin which it calls the MIUI 13 Pad. This is designed specifically for Xiaomi tablet devices with bigger screen like the Mi Pad 5 Pro and Mi Pad 5.
Xiaomi claims that there are already over 3000 apps developed to support the features of the MIUI 13 pad, which includes Pad-specific gestures such as dragging, pinch-to-resize, drag-and-drop, or opening an app directly into a small window.
There is also a watch version of the MIUI 13 for the Xiaomi Watch Color 2 and Watch S1. The MIUI 13 is expected to start rolling out in January of 2022 first for the Xiaomi Mi 12 and Xiaomi Mi 11 series, as well as several Redmi TVs.
