How to Flash MIUI 12 update on your Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco Phone
It is no more news that the latest iteration of Xiaomi's custom Android skin which is the MIUI 12 has already started rolling out.The MIUI 12 update was released in China a couple of months ago and almost all eligible smartphones in that region have gotten the update.
There are however a whole lot of Xiaomi devices that are not in China and are yet to receive the OTA update for the MIUI 12. Some of those that are available are actually Beta stable ROM, which means that they are only meant for those that are part of the Beta program and won't install on any device that is not a participant.
The good news however is that there is a work around on how to manually install the Beta stable MIUI 12 update manually on your Xiaomi smartphone even if you didn't signup for the beta program. The procedure is pretty simple and straightforward, but it will however require a custom recovery.
If you can't wait anymore for Xiaomi to finally release the stable MIUI 12 for all users and you are willing to manually install it on your device, then simply follow the detailed procedure below. The requirements and all the instructions are included.
There are actually different methods to get the MIUI 12 update on your device, but first, it is advisable to check if the OTA update is available for your device first, also you can try to install the recovery version of the ROM via OTA. If both methods doesn't work for you then you can proceed to the third method.
- Go to settings.
- Tap on About phone >> Software Update
- Tap on the MIUI 11 Logo in the middle of the screen 10 times.
- After that, tap on the three dots at the top right corner of the screen.
- Tap on update settings and turn on Receive updates early.
- After that, Go back and tap on Check for updates.
- If you get No update available, then try the second or third method below.

Requirements:
- Xiaomi MIUI 12 OTA ROM: Download HERE.
- Download the MIUI 12 OTA zip file for your Xiaomi smartphone from the link above.
- Copy the OTA file to your phone’s internal storage.
- Go to your phone Settings >> About Phone >> System Update.
- Tap the MIUI 11 logo for 10 times continuously.
- Click on the three vertical dots on the top right corner to open the menu and select “Choose Update Package”.
- Your file manager will then open, locate the ROM zip file you downloaded and select it.
- Tap on reboot to apply the MIUI 12 update on your Xiaomi Phone.
- Your phone will then reboot and the update process will start automatically.
How to manually Update Xiaomi phone to MIUI 12 through Recovery
If for some reasons the OTA update method doesn't work for you, then you can try out the Recovery method.
If you still have the stock recovery on your phone then try out the first method, but if this first method doesn't work for you or you have a custom Twrp installed, then use the second method.
Requirements:
- Xiaomi MIUI 12 Recovery ROM: Download HERE.
- Download the Recovery ROM from the link provided above and rename it to update.zip
- Make sure you download the right version for your phone region.
- Copy the downloaded file directly into your phone's internal storage.
- Turn off your phone.
- Reboot to recovery mode by pressing both the Power button and Volume Up button simultaneously.
- Navigate with your Volume up and down button, and use the power button for selecting an option.
- Select install update.zip and the update process will begin.
- Your phone will reboot once completed, but if it doesn't, just manually select reboot from the options.
Requirements:
- Make sure you have Twrp recovery installed or check the procedure HERE.
- Download the Recovery MIUI 12 firmware for your Xiaomi phone the LINK above.
- Make sure you download the right version for your phone region.
- Copy the downloaded file to your phone's internal storage.
- Back up your important phone data as you might loose it.
- Turn off your phone.
- Reboot to recovery mode by pressing both the Power up and Volume up button together.
- wipe system, data and cache but it is not compulsory (You will loose your files if you do so).
- Go back and click on install.
- Select the recovery ROM file you downloaded earlier and swipe right to begin the installation process.
- Once the installation is completed, your phone will reboot automatically.
- In case it doesn't reboot, just manually select reboot from the options.
