Full list of Xiaomi (Redmi and Mi series) smartphones and their codenames (Updated)

Xiaomi is currently one of the top 5 smartphone manufactures in the world. Just like most other manufacturers, Xiaomi releases a lot of phones every year and they also do come in different variants which can be sometimes confusing to the users.To help solve the confusion, Xiaomi phones do come with unique code names.

All Xiaomi smartphone do come with its own unique codename. This unique code-names do help differentiate Xiaomi devices from the others and they do come in handy a lot of times. Xiaomi uses this code names whenever they are releasing a new ROM or updates for their devices so users don't mistakenly flash the wrong ROM. Every flashboot ROM also has prefix which is always the code name of the device that owns the ROM. 

For example, Xiaomi has a Redmi Note 5 Global/China and Redmi Note 5 Pro (India) which is the same device and its code named "whyred". This is different from the  Redmi Note 5 (India) which has the code name "Vince". So if you want to download MIUI 10 fastboot ROM for  Redmi Note 5 Global/China and Redmi Note 5 Pro (India) , it will have the name whyred_global_images_V10.0.1.0.OEIMIFH_20180910.0000.00_8.1_global_ef9a6f693b.tgz. Which will help differentiate it from the Redmi Note 5 Pro (India).

Custom ROMs, kernels and custom recoveries like TWRP also use the codenames so users don't mistakenly flash the wrong file on their devices which might end up bricking it. The codename is a very important aspect of Xiaomi devices especially if you intend flashing ROMs on your devices.
